MediaTek unveils first mmWave Chipset to support 5G smartphones

MediaTek has announced the launch of Dimensity 1050 system-on-chip, the first mmWave 5G chipset that will support the advanced generation of 5G equipped smartphones with seamless connectivity and display, power efficiency, and gaming.

As per reports, with the help of dual connectivity using sub-6Ghz and mmWave, the Dimensity 1050 will provide the capacity and speeds needed to equip the smartphone users with an outstanding experience, even in densely populated regions.

The Dimensity 1050 altogether uses sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G to fluidly drift within the bands of network and is developed on the most effective TSMC 6nm creation process with an octa core CPU.

The new chipset, supporting 4CC carrier aggregation on mmWave (FR2) spectrum and 3CC carrier aggregation on FR1 spectrum, will be able to deliver at least 53% faster speed and increased reach to smartphones in comparison to LTE + mmWave aggregation itself.

The SoC combines two of the latest 2.5Ghz speed ARM Cortex-A78 CPUs and the advanced Arm Mali-G610 graphics engine.

Deputy General Manager at MediaTek’s Wireless Communications Business Unit, CH Chen, stated that Dimensity 1050 along with its combination of mmWave and sub-6GHz technologies will provide uninterrupted connectivity, end-to-end 5G experiences, and superior owner efficiency to cater to the daily demands of the user.

CH Chen added that with more reliable, faster connections and advanced camera technology, the chip will offer powerful features to assist devices make difference between their smartphone product lines.

Along with 5G optimizations, the Dimensity 1050 will also deliver Wi-Fi optimizations besides MediaTek’s HyperEngine 5.0 gaming technology to enable low-latency connections with new tri-band – 6Ghz, 2.4GHz, and 5GHz, that extends performance and game time.

Additionally, LPDDR5 memory and high-end UFS 3.1 storage guarantees ultra-fast data streams to speed up social feeds, apps, and fast FPS in games.
