Content Llama raises $2.8Mn to boost expansion and promote employment

Donegal-based automated product content configuration platform, Content Llama has reportedly raised USD 2.8 million (EUR 2.5 million) in a funding round led by the Western Development Commission and Elkstone Partners.

It has been speculated that the fresh funding will be used to expand the company’s scope and to hire 20 new employees.

The financing tranche also witnessed participation from Enterprise Ireland and other well-known strategic investors such as John Riordan, Director of support at Shopify; and Pa Nolan, a veteran investor who has backed several startups including Scurri, Treemetrics, Deposify, Orecco and Wazp.

CEO of Content Llama, Karina Kelly quoted that the company is currently focused on serving more international clients, both in mainland Europe as well as the U.S.

She further added that the firm is also planning to expand outside Ireland so the new talent will primarily be hired for areas including business development and sales, as well as in product.

Founded by Joleen Looney and Karina Kelly in 2019, Content Llama has built a platform that automates the configuration, collection, and delivery of multi-source product content for ecommerce websites.

The company partners with over 3,600 global brands to curate content at scale for well-known customers such as Aer Rianta International, Walmart, and Lifestyle Sports.

It has been claimed that the Content Llama plans to raise an additional USD 11.5 to USD 17 million from international investors soon.

CEO Kelly further claimed that the company is in a unique space. The firm does have competition, but its operations are quite new, and not many have operated in this area. She claimed that it is vital to scale as quickly as possible and ensure that the company gets recognized for the value it is providing.

Currently, Content Llama employs 42 people including two part-time and 14 full-time staff locally.
