Samsung introduces two affordable Snapdragon-enabled Windows laptops

After making headlines for introducing a 43-inch smart monitor as well as a Bluetooth-enabled smart keyboard, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. is now launching two new Windows laptops, the Galaxy Book Go as well as the Galaxy Book Go 5G.

The South Korean electronics giant has been making consistent headways in the computer space for a while. Samsung reintroduced itself as a prominent laptop contender back in 2019 when it launched the Galaxy Book Flex and the Galaxy Book Ion.

Although these two devices offered an aesthetic appeal as well as solid specs, they failed to make an impact in the market owing to their high cost. The company then shifted its priorities by introducing the Galaxy Book Pro 360, Galaxy Book Pro, and the affordable Galaxy Book in 2021 which were powered by the Exynos chip.

However, the new Galaxy Book Go and the Galaxy Book Go 5G will be based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor instead of the Exynos chips, cited sources aware of the development.

The entry-level model, the Galaxy Book Go, will have an updated Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 processor and will be available in 4GB and 8GB of RAM variants. While the starting price of this laptop will be USD 349, it comes with a 14-inch 1080p LCD, is 14.9mm thick, and weighs around 1.38 kg.

On the other hand, the Galaxy Book Go 5G will consist of a Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 processor, a more powerful Qualcomm processor. However, Samsung is yet to declare the launch date as well as the price of this variant.

Notably, the Galaxy Book Pro 360 will rival the Apple MacBook Air and the Dell XPS 13, both of which are highly popular. It would be interesting to see how the South Korean electronics giant toughens up against the two established laptop makers.
