Facebook testing new option for cross-posting content to Instagram

By Mateen Dalal

Facebook, Inc is reportedly testing an option that will allow users to cross-post their photos, videos, and other posts on their Instagram. It already has the feature to let people cross-post their Instagram content to Facebook.

This upcoming feature will be convenient for the people who are active on both platforms as it will save them time from having to upload the same content twice.

Instagram is facing stiff competition from other applications like TikTok and Snapchat. The new feature will be an easy way for Facebook to fill Instagram with sufficient content and ensure more user engagement.

Sources claim that the option is presently in the global testing phase and is available for a selected group of people who have their Facebook profiles linked to a business, personal, or creator account on Instagram.

The tech giant is yet to formally announce the feature. When available, the users would find the additional feature in Facebook’s compose box. On tapping, they will be directed to a new screen with the option to share any of their posts on the linked Instagram account.

As per the company, users will be able to cross-post single photos, single videos, or multi-photo albums up to 10 images, at present. Meanwhile, feed reshares, only text posts, content that are too tall for Instagram’s feed, and other formats like GIFs, polls are not supported.

It is worth noting that Facebook had introduced a cross-app communication feature between Messenger and Instagram, last year. It has allowed Instagram users to chat with friends who use Facebook.

Facebook is actively looking to introduce more advanced features to increase user engagement. Besides cross-posting, It is also working on adding an option wherein Facebook users can make video and voice calls directly without having to switch to the messenger app.
