Amazon launches in-app video streaming service Amazon miniTV in India

E-commerce giant Amazon has recently launched a free video streaming service called Amazon miniTV in India. Available on the primary Amazon app, the new feature will help in improving the sales and the overall user experience, cited sources close to the matter.

Amazon miniTV, basically a YouTube-like platform, will showcase web series, food videos, lifestyle, technology, and comedy sketches. Although it is currently only available for Android OS, the iOS and mobile web versions are expected to be introduced soon.

Sources confirmed that users will be redirected to a relatively newer section that will have a proper app-like interface with tabs for various genres. Parental control feature is also integrated to keep a check on restricted or unrestricted videos.

Amazon has reportedly tied up with various artists popular among Indian users. As per the reports, it is expected to showcase older videos of the roped-in artists initially, with additional plans to add relatively newer content exclusively for Amazon miniTV.

The feature will be completely free and accessible to anyone, unlike Amazon Prime Video that requires a membership. Reportedly, the newly introduced feature will also allow Amazon to take on Flipkart who had also introduced a similar OTT video streaming platform back in 2019.

Apart from this, Amazon is still promoting its Prime Video services to Indian consumers as it competes with another popular OTT streaming platform Netflix. The e-commerce giant is also planning to introduce over three dozen new shows and movies in India this year.

Speaking of Prime Video, Amazon has announced that it has discontinued the monthly subscription plan in India in a bid to adhere to the new policy of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). For those unaware, the RBI has recently asked several financial institutions to integrate Additional Factor of Authentication, especially for recurring transactions.
