Amazon faces 5 lawsuits on grounds of discrimination and reprisal

Amazon is reportedly facing five new lawsuits on the pretext of discrimination and retaliation at work, mostly from white male managers.

Present and previous Amazon warehouse and corporate employees filed the cases in Washington, California, Arizona, and Pennsylvania, cited trusted sources. They allege Amazon executives and HR personnel of sexual harassment, ethnic, racial, and gender discrimination, and systemic prejudices in Amazon hiring, promotions, and layoffs based on race and gender.

Four of the workers claim they were hit back after raising complaints, with three of them fired, and attorneys for the employees said Amazon's senior management and HR department usually protected and supported abusive managers.

Lawrence Pearson and Jeanne Christensen, attorneys at the law firm Wigdor, representative of the five employees, mentioned that for years, allegations of harassment and discrimination by women and employees of color at Amazon have been suppressed and met with retaliation.

Amazon cannot disregard white supervisors' abusive behavior and retaliation as tales. These are structural issues that go deep through the firm and looked at by an HR organization that treats staff who voice their concern, added the lawyers.

Amazon responded stating, that it is looking into each case, and a company spokesperson said they discovered no proof to substantiate the allegations.

The lawsuit came only a week before Amazon shareholders are to vote on a list of proposals at the company's annual meeting, including a resolution requiring the corporation to undergo a racial equity audit which Amazon has resisted with a failed appeal to the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission), sources cited.

In other news, the e-commerce giant is waving off its mask rules for fully vaccinated operations employees in the United States. The move comes as other leading firms such as Target and Walmart are dropping mask requirement.
